The Benton School District is committed to providing students in the district equal opportunity to develop to their fullest potential.

The Benton School District is committed to an education program that recognizes the unique value, needs, and talents of each individual student.

This commitment includes providing a program for identifying and meeting the needs and interests of our gifted students.

Gifted students are those with high potential whose educational needs, learning characteristics, and abilities require substantially different educational experiences and services not provided for in the regular instructional program.

The basic purposes of the program in gifted education are to extend the scope and horizons and improve the learning experience for the gifted student by promoting higher level thought processes, critical and creative thinking skills, freedom to study in-depth areas of interest, to expand levels of inquiry, and to develop within each individual a sense of worth and a responsibility to self and to society.

Referrals for placement in the gifted programs may be made to any facilitator or the office of the supervisor.
